Position Summary

The outside sales representative is responsible for selling new or additional services to existing and potential customers in an assigned service area. The outside sales representative is responsible for identifying and generating leads, proactively prospecting and selling commercial, industrial and recycling services to new customers. The outside sales representative is also responsible for building, maintaining and growing long-term relationships with existing clients and meeting targeted sales and retention goals.

Essential Job Functions

  • Identify viable leads through referrals, cold calling, and other business development activities, manage prospects and acquire new, profitable commercial and industrial business to meet and exceed monthly established targeted revenue goals.
  • Drive customer acquisition, revenue and profit goals through a service orientation lens while actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Develop and maintain a high proficiency in selling all aspects of products and services including refuse and recycling collection services.
  • Establish and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction by resolving customer issues in a timely manner and solving accounts receivable and service problems.
  • Build relationships and increase Company visibility through participation in Company-sponsored activities as required; attend trade shows, chamber of commerce events and other events, as necessary. Act as a company representative at community events, where required.
  • Develop and maintain an awareness of market behavior and competitive trends in designated market to anticipate changing customer needs; proactively manage customer base.
  • Grasps concepts quickly and has good follow through skills; adheres to work schedule and follows through on challenges as they arise; maintains a positive outlook.
  • Is self-motivated; maintains a feeling of pride in work; has a strong work ethic and strives to achieve all goals; is competitive and has a strong drive to win; takes appropriate risks.

  • Meet or exceed sales all activity goals for both new sales and retention.
  • Acquire fundamental knowledge of potential customers, pricing and competition.
  • Prepare timely and accurate sales activity reports
  • Prepare and deliver sales presentations to grow existing client base; follow up with key decision makers to assure contracts are renewed in a timely and price efficient manner.
  • Proactively communicate with, or respond to, customers in conjunction with pricing initiatives.
  • Meet regularly with Sales Manager to review weekly sales activities
  • Track all prospective customer information on required reporting format.
  • Complete all required Customer Service Agreement (“CSA”), CRM entries and other reports in a complete, accurate and timely manner.

  • Proficient use of Office 365 and related platforms
  • Demonstrated organizational, oral, written, and listening skills
  • Ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal, in a way the customer can understand
  • Prepare and submit all administrative paperwork for customer set up, account changes and commissions
  • Demonstrate effective time management skills
  • Experience

    Minimum 3 years “Business to Business” sales


    Associates degree in Business Administration or sales and Marketing is preferred

  • Valid Drivers license
  • Ability to lift 40lbs

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

    This position is full-time. Some flexibility in hours is permitted, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.


    Occasional overnight travel may be required for training.
