Hours: 9am to 5pm, Monday through Friday and every other Saturday.
Pay Range: $18.00 to $20.00 an hour, overtime eligible.
Position Summary:
Oak Ridge Waste and Recycling / Interstate Waste Services in Danbury, CT is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Bi-Lingual Scale Operator to join our team.
The Scale Operator will be responsible for accurately weighing and recording materials, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and maintaining equipment cleanliness and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment. The Scale Operator plays an integral role within various industries, particularly those involving bulk material handling such as waste management, recycling, and construction.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Weigh trucks entering and exiting the facility to accurately calculate the load carried, ensuring compliance with legal weight limits.
- Record weight data and transaction details in the computer system for billing and tracking purposes.
- Inspect vehicles for safety and compliance with regulations before allowing them onto the scale.
- Coordinate with truck drivers to provide instructions on positioning vehicles on the scale for accurate weight measurement.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration checks on the scale to ensure accuracy and reliability of measurements.
- Issue weight tickets to drivers as proof of compliance with weight regulations.
- Resolve discrepancies or disputes related to weight measurements by reviewing transaction records and conducting re-weighs if necessary.
- Manage the queue of waiting vehicles to ensure efficient flow of traffic in and out of the scale area.
Qualifications:
- MUST have computer and system experience with spreadsheets and data entry.
- MUST have intermediate experience with Excel.
- Previous experience in scale operation or heavy equipment machine operation is preferred, including familiarity with forklifts, loaders, and other machinery.
- Ability to perform heavy lifting tasks safely and efficiently.
- Experience in cleaning and sanitizing industrial equipment is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow safety protocols consistently.
